💬 10 Ways to Have Stimulating Conversation
“Where are you from?”
“How about this weather?”
“What do you do?”
Sure, those are fine openers, but where do you go after that? There has to be a better way to talk to our fellow humans!
Fortunately, this article has some great recommendations on how to have a stimulating conversation, as well as some resources for further study. Definitely worth a read.
🏀 New world record - highest basketball shot
This is a crazy video of “Dude Perfect” setting a new world record for highest basketball shot. It’s really something to see.
The backstory (which you’ll see on the thread) is he was up there for THREE DAYS trying to make this shot, and he finally did it on the last hour.
Watching this video reminds me of reading about Dianna Nyad, who swam for 53 hours from Cuba to Florida. Many people thought that was a solo mission, but she had a full team with her to make it happen. Whether you’re swimming for 53 hours, making an impossible basketball shot, or something in-between, the truth is we need people around us!
👨 The 20 Best Ted Lasso-isms, Ranked
“You know what the happiest animal on Earth is? It’s a goldfish. You know why? It’s got a 10-second memory.”
I read somewhere recently that Ted Lasso, completing it’s final season on Apple TV, has gone from a nice little comedy to full fledge drama. That’s completely true. As the show has just a few episodes left, I expect there to be a lot of articles like this one.
(I forgot about the one referencing Woody Allen playing the clarinet 🤣)
❔ 7 Questions to Ask Your Boss
I recently came across these questions in an article online. When I went to link the article, the page was no longer up, so I’m glad I saved the questions!
There is a certain proactivity represented in these questions. I’ve been thinking through them both from a lens if I asked them, as well as if I was asked them.
1) What do you think are the three biggest issues for our team right now?
(This shows big-picture thinking and caring about the team’s success)
2) My top three priorities are X, Y and Z. Do you feel they’re the most impactful way for me to spend my time?
(This shows a desire to have an impact and work on the most important things.)
3) I noticed X happened, and I’m worried it might impact our team’s goal for Z. Am I looking at this the right way?
(This shows proactivity and transparency in identifying blockers.)
4) I’m thinking about trying X, Y and Z to improve ABC. What do you think of those ideas?
(This shows initiative in solving problems.)
5) What do you think my strengths and weaknesses are relative to others on our team? How can I double down on my strengths / mitigate my weaknesses?
(This shows desire for growth.)
6) I am not as effective as I’d like to be on X. Do you have any suggestions for how I can improve?
(This shows self-awareness and openness for feedback.)
7) Can I share some feedback for you that might help you do X better?
(This shows courage in speaking truth to power for the sake of the team)
Words to wrap up:
