Protecting your brain / The Future of Work / Toilet Paper and servant leadership / Your 5-9 and 9-5 / PaperLike Screen Protectors
Welcome to Further Faster Fridays! Our goal is to curate the best content in personal development and leadership to help you go further, faster.
So much great content this week, it was hard to choose just a few to highlight! But, that means more in the queue for next week! :)
Now, on to the content!
đ§ Protecting your brain as you get older
This video has me really thinking this week. It made me realize that as life progresses, we might seek situations that are comfortable, or part of our routine. This video challenges that. It also reminds me of a talk I heard on Shonda Rhimesâ book, âYear of Yesâ. Fascinating premiseâŠ
đ The future of work, from Microsoft CEO
Ever since I read Microsoft CEO Satya Nadellaâs book âHit Refreshâ, Iâve been intrigued with the way he goes about life and business. This article isnât the typical âBe ready for a hybrid workplaceâ content. Satya offers some perceptive musings on what he sees as future trends that will shape our workforce.
I can tell you that his second point, âArtificial intelligence as a co-pilotâ is already here. Just this week, AI saved me a good 10 hours of work in the communication space.
𧻠Toilet paper and servant leadership
No, Iâm not going to tell you which way is the âright wayâ to put on toilet paper. (Thatâs one of those things I sincerely have no opinion on). However, this article should help to inspire us around the people in our lives. Is today a day when you can provide recognition and thanks to someone in your life?
đ Is your 5-9 hurting your 9-5?
Oh man⊠guilty, guilty, guilty of this one. Whenever I start to feel burned out or overly stressed, this is one of the first things I look at. Given we live in an âalways onâ society, this is a good reminder that each one of us has the power to âturn it offâ.
One tip I recently learned, especially if you work at home, to create a break between work and home - when you shut down for the day, physically say the word âshut downâ. It cues your brain that itâs time for your evening.
đ± Gear: PaperLike Screen Protector for iPad
I heard about these a couple of months ago. I took a gamble and installed it on my iPad Pro. Iâve been loving it! I use the Apple Pencil quite a bit in my day-to-day, and this screen protector provides a tactile surface to write on. Very similar to the feel of writing on paper, as well as not as slippery as the glass. The install process is super easy as well!
Words to wrap up:
âOne lesson Iâve learned is that if the job I do were easy, I wouldnât derive so much satisfaction from it. The thrill of winning is in direct proportion to the effort I put in before. I also know, from long experience, that if you make an effort in training when you donât especially feel like making it, the payoff is that you will win games when you are not feeling your best. That is how you win championships, that is what separates the great player from the merely good player. The difference lies in how well youâve prepared.â
