5 People You Need in Your Life
Think of the most successful person you know. Chances are, they didn’t get there alone. Behind every significant achievement is a support system of key individuals who offer unique insights and encouragement. No one achieves greatness alone, and neither should we. Reflecting on my own journey, these are the types of people I find invaluable to have around me.
The Visionary
The Visionary is the person who operates from the 30,000-foot view. They can see the big picture and help you manage the flow of information, knowing when to speed up or slow down. They have the unique ability to see opportunities and threats you might miss, guiding you with their broader perspective. Visionaries help you stay focused on your long-term goals and ensure that your actions align with your overall strategy.
The Activator
The Activator is the spark that ignites your actions. This person always has something going on and is your go-to for a burst of energy, creativity, or a push when you feel stuck. They thrive on momentum and remind you to keep moving forward, regardless of setbacks. Activators encourage bold choices and inspire you to take action, reminding you that if you miss a shot, get up, and take another one.
The Encourager
The Encourager is often underestimated but plays a crucial role in your journey. This person stands by you during tough times, offering unwavering support and encouragement. They inspire you to give your best and provide a much-needed morale boost when you're feeling low. Their belief in you reinforces your own confidence, making them an essential source of positivity and resilience.
The Enforcer
The Enforcer is both loved and feared 😂. They hold you to your commitments, whether it's writing a book, completing a project, or reaching a personal goal. They ask tough questions like, "When will it be finished?" and track your progress alongside you. They help you to focus on metrics, ensuring you stay on track and make measurable progress. Ultimately, Enforcers help you maintain discipline and follow through on your plans.
The Sage
The Sage is a seasoned veteran who brings wisdom and perspective to your life. When things go off the rails, this person helps you remember what's most important. The Sage understands the battle you’re currently going through because they’ve already been through the war. Able to remind you of your ‘why’, Sages provide the guidance and clarity needed to navigate complex situations and make informed decisions.
What type of person are you? What type can you be to someone else?
Olympic Table Tennis Grandma
This was one of my favorite stories to come out of the Olympics. Zeng Zhiying became a first-time Olympian at age 58. At 18 years old, she was one of China’s top table tennis players. Her life had quite a journey and during Covid, she fell back in love with the game and started training again.
The moral of the story? That thing you’ve been considering - it’s not too late! 😉
Mojie Quiz
I’m not sure if it will catch on as well as Wordle, but a unique premise - use emojis to figure out the title of a movie. A couple of examples:
Theme: “Bon Appétit”, Clue: 👨🏼🍳🦱🐀 🍝, Answer: “Ratatouille”
Theme: “Fruit Salad”, Clue: 🕛🕒🕓🍊, Answer: "Clockwork Orange"
24 Ted Talks for Leaders
I found myself going back to this list over the last couple of weeks. There are some gems within this list!
Words to wrap up
“There are many people who think they want to be matadors, only to find themselves in the ring with 2,000 pounds of bull bearing down on them, and then discover that what they really wanted was to wear tight pants and hear the crowd roar.”
–Terry Pearce
