15 Ways to Be a Great Leader
Nothing super complicated, just a list of some of my fundamental beliefs in working with people :)
Leadership is ultimately a position of service. You are there to do whatever you can to make your team better. Often, this involves tasks that are not glamorous. However, as the adage goes, if serving is beneath you, then leadership is beyond you.
Be clear with your expectations - clarity equals kindness.
In the absence of information, believe the best. About people, about behaviors, about motives, believe the best (thanks, Brene Brown!)
Say thank you, a lot. Take the number of times you do it now, and double it. Chances are it’s still not enough. (thanks, Craig Groeschel)
You will mess up, guaranteed. It’s only a failure if you don’t learn from it.
Know the names of those people in your team’s personal lives. Bonus points for knowing pet’s names.
Be good at celebrating the wins. No, it’s never too small. Chances are if you thought of it, it can be celebrated.
Don’t interrupt. (more about that last week)
Inspire your team to high standards, giving context as to why that’s important for you, them, and the organization.
Be an expert on those on your team — their likes/dislikes/preferences, etc.
Be a force for positivity; optimism can shift the trajectory of most situations.
Be prepared for your meetings, providing agendas beforehand and action items afterward.
Be as honest and transparent in your actions and communications as you can.
Be vulnerable and open to feedback on your leadership. One of my favorite questions is, “What’s it like to be on the other side of me?”
Your words create worlds. Be intentional with the kind of world you want to create for those around you.

The Power of Memes
Some wisdom from author Adam Grant:
Words to wrap up
Because at the end of the day, the right people fight for you. The right people show up. The right people care, not only when life is convenient, but when it is difficult and messy and it aches all over.
