Now, on to the content!
The Frequency Illusion
It’s amazing how many tan Silverado trucks are in my city.
Have you ever noticed that? Well, maybe not tan Silverados, but have you ever purchased something, then began noticing how much you saw that same thing everywhere you went? That is known as the Frequency Illusion (also known as the Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon).
So, to put it another way, what you’re looking for, you’ll find.
I’ve certainly noticed in my own life that if I’m looking for negativity and cynicism, I’ll find it. Similarly, if you’re looking for beauty, positivity, and hope, you’ll find it.
As humans, sometimes we find it easier to focus on the negatives. To illustrate, imagine I sent you two lists, but you could only open one. The first list contains 99 things that everyone loves about you, while the second list contains one thing that everyone dislikes about you. Which list would you choose to open?
In our day-to-day lives, even though it might be easier to see the negative (and have corresponding conversations about it), I believe we’re called as leaders to something better - to be ‘dealers of hope’, as someone once said.
The question then becomes, what are you looking for today?
6 Things You Can Do With Canva
Canva is a popular online graphic design tool that allows users to create visually stunning designs without needing any prior design experience. Canva has really gained popularity in the last few years, becoming a go-to choice for businesses, marketers, and individuals alike.
I thought this was a great article that highlights 6 lesser-known things Canva can do, including the ability to edit PDFs!
20 Life Lessons
Byron Wien, a renowned investment strategist, was famous for creating an annual list called "10 Surprises" regarding the market's outlook for the new year. During one of his speeches, the host asked him to share the lessons he had learned in his 80 years of life and investing, which led him to create another fantastic list named "Lessons Learned in His First 80 Years."
This list includes some unique insights I haven’t found elsewhere. One nugget I particularly enjoyed was:
8. When meeting someone new, try to find out what formative experience occurred in their lives before they were seventeen.
How To Load A Dishwasher
I’m not sure how this article came across my feed, but I’m wondering if “someone” (you know who you are :D) manipulated the internets to send it my way. 😂
In any case, Consumer Reports spent a fair amount of time ensuring we all know the ‘proper’ way to load a dishwasher. The question is - do you agree?
Words to wrap up
Life Lesson - you can wait for others, or you can build a raft. It’s up to you.
