“@Highlight” Facebook Scam
If you're on Facebook, you may have seen posts claiming you can type "@highlight" as a comment on that post in order to see who has been visiting.
Well, simply put, it's a scam and not true.
Facebook clearly states here they don’t allow users to track who views their profile and they don’t allow third-party apps to track profile views either.
So, you might ask, “Why is this a thing?” Well, one of the reasons this scam has some traction is because it increases the interaction with the associated page or profile. Then, after the scammer’s page or profile has reached a high level of engagement, they either sell it to other scammers or use it themselves to post fraudulent Facebook ads, spread malware or perform some other malicious purpose.
So, in short, every time a user leaves an @highlight comment on one of these hoax posts they’re actually helping a scammer perpetuate their scams.
Now all of the above being said, @highlight does have a legitimate purpose on Facebook. If you post something and then immediately comment @highlight on that post it will attract more viewers to the post. This can be useful for posts that really need to be seen by as many people as possible (a post exposing a scam, for example).
Bottom line: Typing @highlight as a comment on someone else’s post won’t reveal who has been checking out your profile.
Stop Calling Your Company a Family
I’ve long wrestled with the idea that our workplace and teams are a ‘family’. Of course, I understand the sentiment behind the expression, but there’s part of it that simply doesn’t translate. This article does a fantastic job of explaining how Netflix addressed this, as well as provides some better vocabulary to use to accomplish the same thing.
35 Interview Questions for a Manager
What a great, out of the box, list here for interviewing a potential candidate for a management position. Some gems I particularly enjoyed:
What are 1-2 questions you always ask your team members in one-on-one meetings, and why?
I love this as it assumes the person values 1:1 meetings.
What’s something new you’ve learned recently?
A leader that isn’t continually learning will have a hard time continuing to lead!
Can you tell me about one of your direct reports’ accomplishments that you’re most proud of?
Love this one!
ChatGPT Leadership Prompts
Great stuff here from Eric Partaker on LinkedIn regarding creating prompts with ChatGPT to up your leadership game. I’ve implemented a few of these already.
Continual Sunsets
View a Sunset at virtually any time of the day here. This site will connect you to livestreams and webcams all over the world and tell you how many minutes have passed before or after sunset. It’s fascinating to look at this in the morning as my day is just beginning.
Words to wrap up:
"Whatever you’re doing right now is the best use of your time, according to you."
