43 Prompts that Will Change Your Life For The Better
Remember that 90’s song, “Things that make you go hmmm”? Well, here’s an article with 43 really good prompts to get you thinking and evaluating. A few highlights:
What if the only way to add to my life was to subtract from it? What would be the first 1–2 things that I would remove?
What are the unifying characteristics of the top 3 people I most want to emulate?
Do I enjoy what I am going to do today? If not, how long has the answer been no?
What is my biggest win in the last seven days?
Lessons to apply from 3 years of sleep data
A couple on Reddit tracked the impact of different habits on their sleep for 3 years to determine what impacted their sleep:
5 takeaways from this data:
No food before bed
I’ve written about the 3-2-1 method before, but it’s basically this:
3 hours before bed, no food/drink
2 hours before bed, no work
1 hour before bed, no screens
Go to bed earlier
‘Earlier’ is subjective, but I think the important thing is to ensure you’re getting a consistent night’s sleep as often as possible.
Alcohol is not as helpful as one might think
Based on the data, it may seem easy to doze off after a few drinks, but in reality alcohol harms your ability to get deep sleep.
Keep your room cold
Something I discovered recently - when your body temperature is too high, it interrupts melatonin production. Try to keep your bedroom as dark and cool as possible.
Everyone is different
This data may or may not resonate with you. It’s important to pay attention to what helps, and what hinders your sleep. After all, you spend 1/3 of your life doing it!
Before James Cameron was a writer and director
A couple weeks ago, I wrote about how Harrison Ford got his start in the film industry. This thread came up recently talking about the line of work James Cameron was in, before he wrote and directed 3 of the 4 top highest-grossing films of all time (Avatar, Avatar: The Way of Water, and Titanic). Fascinating.
Words to wrap up:
